The Clinical Measurement Centre (CMC) at Alexandra Hospital comprises the Neurodiagnostic Lab, Gastromotility Lab, Pulmonary Function Lab, Cardiac Diagnostic Lab and the Vascular Diagnostic Lab. At CMC, our team of Medical Technologists deliver a comprehensive range of diagnostic services to support doctors in their diagnosis and treatment of various medical conditions.
"The opportunities provided by Alex has groomed me into a highly-skilled sonographer and allowed me to participate in many other portfolios benefiting me in various professional dimensions for my career. I am thankful to be a part of Alex family and continues to craft a life-long learning journey with the institution."
My daily duties typically comprise both clinical and non-clinical aspects. My core clinical duty involves performing echocardiography for patients with suspected cardiac abnormalities and patients with heart disease. As a cardiac sonographer, I need to apply my clinical knowledge of reviewing the patient's clinical history to understand related diagnosis to capture optimal images and ensure accurate measurements of chamber size, identification of structural abnormalities and assessment of valve function.
My daily clinical duties also require me to contribute crucial information and diagnosis for various cardiac conditions. The precision of my assessments aids Cardiologists in formulating accurate treatment plans, guiding interventions, and monitoring the effectiveness of therapies. The impact of my work extends beyond images and reports, contributing to the holistic care and improved cardiovascular health of individuals.
As Alexandra Hospital is developing into a 1300-bed integrated general hospital by 2030, I am involved in planning and designing echo diagnostic labs and the functional areas within Clinical Measurement Centre. Being a core member of the team in planning for echo service expansion for future campus, my responsibilities include drafting SOPs and constant workflow reviews to ensure smooth provision of echocardiography services. It allows me to contribute my ideas into optimizing operational flow of ground services to deliver optimal patient care and create a safe, sustainable and pandemic-ready environment to work in.
My deep-rooted interest in clinical excellence has provided me with a chance to further my studies in MSc in Medical Ultrasound, to which I will be devising a teaching and training programme to share my knowledge and skills learnt with all cardiac sonographers and cardiologists.
The chance to further studies in MSc in Medical Ultrasound has helped me refined my imaging skills and to produce precise and high-quality diagnostic images and reports. With the skillsets and knowledge obtained from my studies, a structured programme is created and will serve as the training blueprint for both our future cardiac sonographers and aspiring cardiologists.
