Hello!
I sometimes get this question from others: What's different about Alexandra Hospital?
My answer: Everything.
Okay, I exaggerate, but in all seriousness, we at Alex (our nickname) say that we have:
One Purpose: To Redesign Healthcare With and For Humanity.
Two Focuses: Inspired Staff, Inspired Patients
Three Game Changers: Care Model, Technology, Infrastructure
But what do these words even mean?
They mean that we are here to make a difference, for our patients and population, for our community and country. That we trust in the goodness of the human heart, and the spontaneity of the human spirit. That we choose to embrace potential and possibility, and to eschew bitterness and bureaucracy.
They mean that beyond caring for the sick, we want to inspire them. That we know that for the latter to happen, we ourselves must first be inspired. That this is why we insist that our people are our leaders, our people are empowered, our people have a voice.
They mean that we are that unusual facility which provides acute and rehabilitative care in one setting. That we are not just a physical hospital with wards and clinics and theatres but also a virtual one that looks after thousands through cyberspace. That we are steadily transforming into a pandemic-resilient, environmentally-sustainable, and caregiver-friendly campus.
Importantly, words remain but words without a culture that makes things happen. Which is why we stop at nothing to build a learning, daring, and fun culture, one that believes in the seeking of knowledge, the courage of individuals, and the joy of work.
We are far from perfect – but perhaps perfect is indeed the enemy of good. We will keep striving to be good – to be better.
If making history through the creation of Singapore's newest hospital buildings alongside its oldest ones excites you, if being part of the academic health system that is the National University Health System thrills you, and perhaps most importantly, if what Alex stands for resonates with you, join us. I have no doubts that our journey together will be most fulfilling.
Sincerely,
Jason
