Biosketch

Dr Wendy Wong is a Consultant with the Department of Ophthalmology at the National University Hospital and Alexandra Hospital.  She graduated from the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine with consecutive Dean’s List awards between 2010 to 2014, as well as the Merchant Medal and Prize in Geriatric Medicine.  She went on to receive the MOH training award for her specialist training and holds a Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology).  In her year for the Specialist Accreditation Examination, she was conferred gold medals for being the best candidate in the categories of Glaucoma, Cataract and Refractive Surgery.  Dr Wong has also been selected to join the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology Rising Star Programme.

Dr Wong subspecialises in the field of Medical Retina, and has a keen interest in age-related macular degeneration, diabetic macular oedema, and inherited retinal diseases.   She has published multiple papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals and is a recipient of several research awards.  This includes the Young Investigator Award at the 10th Asia Pacific Conference on Human Genetics, the Abbott Research Prize and the NHG Eye Institute Award of Distinction. Dr Wong has also been awarded the National Medical Research Council Research Training Fellowship, the NUSMed B2B Collaboration Grant Award and the NUHS Clinician Scientist Programme grant to support her research work.

Dr. Wong's passion in contributing to the medical community extends beyond her clinical and research roles. She currently serves as the vice-chairperson of the Singapore Society of Ophthalmology, Young Ophthalmologist’s Chapter. Dr Wong also holds joint appointments as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology, NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and Clinical Practice Facilitator with the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. In recognition of her excellent teaching, she has received the NUHS Great Teacher Award and the NUHS Young Clinician Mentor Award.
