Dr Tan Yi Quan, Associate Consultant Urologist at both Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and National University Hospital, graduated from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore in 2013. As the top surgical graduate, Dr Tan was awarded the First Mekie Book Prize and Distinction in Surgery. In 2015, he received his Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. In 2020, he was conferred the Master of Medicine (Surgery) from NUS. Dr Tan was selected to represent the National University Health System in MOH's Singapore Chief Residency Programme for future leaders in 2022. Dr Tan was awarded his Specialist Accreditation in Urology and is a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. Dr Tan was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow.
Dr Tan's subspeciality clinical and research interests are in Minimally Invasive Stone Surgery, Complex Urinary Stone Disease, Personalised Care for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), and Minimally Invasive Surgical Treatment (MIST) for BPH. Dr Tan has been invited as an Associate Member of the esteemed Asian Urological Society of Endoluminal Surgery and Technology. To further develop his surgical skills, Dr Tan trained overseas as an Endourology Fellow at the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University in 2024 under Professor Zeng Guohua, a world-renowned expert in kidney stone surgery.
Dr Tan is passionate about medical education. In 2024, Dr Tan was awarded the prestigious NUHS Teaching Excellence Award by the National University Health System. He actively contributes to post-graduate Urology education through his regular involvement in various international workshops and conferences. He serves as a Clinical Lecturer with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS. As part of the Medical Education Distinction Track, he pioneered the Informed Consent Workshop for final-year medical students, and was awarded the Young Scholar Award at the Asia-Pacific Medical Education Conference.
In 2019, Dr Tan was awarded the Fung Clinical Fellowship by NUS for overseas outreach and humanitarian work. He was part of the National University Centre for Organ Transplantation team who shared their expertise in living-related paediatric Kidney Transplantation at the Mandalay Children's Hospital in Myanmar. Outside of Urology, Dr Tan was awarded the prestigious Sword of Honour for the 80th Medical Officer Conversion Course as the top graduate during National Service, in addition to the Best Knowledge and Top Marksman Awards. He continues to serve as an Officer in the Republic of Singapore Air Force Headquarters.
