Biosketch

Dr Victor Ong is the Programme Director of Emergency Medicine Residency Programme and oversees the training of future Emergency Medicine Specialists within NUHS. He is an Assistant Professor in NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and a clinical tutor in the NUS Centre of Biomedical Ethics.

He is a faculty of IQunoIC, a distinction program within the NUHS residency framework, and EQUIP-R program, bringing Innovation and Quality in Healthcare training to our residents. 

Dr Ong graduated from NUS in 1992 and received his FRCS Edin(A&E) in 2001. 

After attaining specialist qualifications in 2004, he was awarded HMDP for fellowship training in Trauma and Critical Care in 2005/2006 in the Royal London Hospital Emergency Department. Dr Ong is currently a fellow of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine and the Academy of Medicine Singapore.

Dr Ong believes in passing it forward, taking care of the younger generation of physicians, developing their clincial acumen, character, professionalism and encouraging their innate sense of curiosity. At the same time, patient safety and experience is foremost in his mind, as he seeks to incalcuate a culture of safety within the department, and especially amongst the Emergency Medicine Residents. 

Dr Ong's clinical research interest is primarily in trauma management, especially in acute hemostasis and non surgical resusctation of hypotensive trauma patients; as well as patient safety and quality improvement projects. He is keen to explore new technology and collaboration in these areas.
