"I started my journey as a plastic surgeon after having practised dentistry sub-specialising in oral and maxillofacial surgery in the United Kingdom and Hong Kong. I am drawn to the variety of surgeries that can bring new meaning and life to people. I am often asked why I changed my career but in fact it was a progression rather than a change. It allows me to offer the best patient care in a holistic manner. The journey has been made possible supported by an excellent faculty and peers. Working in the area of head, neck and craniofacial surgeries is incredibly rewarding because it not only does it improves a patients’ physical appearance but also significantly enhances their quality of life and overall wellbeing, including self esteem."
Dr Hung's work as a plastic surgeon does is not limited to only the head and neck area. However, she does holds a special interest in surgeries involving the face, head and neck areas as enhanced by her background in dentistry and oral and maxillofacial surgery. After attaining her dental surgery qualifications from the University of Hong Kong, she went on to Imperial College London to train in surgery before joining NUH in 2014.
Since then, she has extended her surgical expertise in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. Her areas of interest include craniomaxillofacial surgery, face and body reconstructive and aesthetic surgeries and wound care. Giving back and expanding knowledge Dr Hung believes in giving back to the society and has participated in mission trips in countries such as Africa and in the South East Asia region. These missions not only bring medical care to disadvantaged communities, but are also invaluable in improving interprofessional capabilities for a more sustained impact.
